With FT8 you can work towards, and receive, the Worked United States Stations Award with even the most basic Ham Radio HF station imaginable. To receive the starting certificate requires contacts with 100 different stations residing anywhere in the United States.
The certificate for each level appears to be unique and features some scene from various parts of the country. As you can see from my 100 and 1,500 station examples here, that spans from New York to California and plenty of places in between.
I believe the US stations referenced by this award are only those in the 48 contiguous states. Alaska and Hawaii are excluded because they are considered separate “countries” for DXCC purposes.
There are no separate awards for stations worked on a single band like some other FT8DMC awards. However, the program provides additional awards for multiples of 100, 500 or 1,000 additional stations reaching up to lofty heights. At this time, the FT8 Digital Mode Club (FT8DMC) issues the top award for contacts with 10,000 unique stations. That should keep you busy.
The Worked United States Stations Award is just one of many Country QSO Count Awards that are offered by multiple groups.
To apply for the Worked United States Stations Award, and all other FT8DMC awards, you must install the UltimateAAC application on a Windows machine. That application scans your WSJT-X ADIF log file and will inform you when you’ve qualified for the award at various levels. FT8DMC issues the award in digital form only (JPG or PDF) with no printing or shipping costs. In fact, the award is completely free, like all of their other awards.
