I have a very humble station in a neighborhood where looming towers would not be welcome. So I won’t be winning any contests from home. But even small fry contesters can take advantage of contests because of the increased participation on the bands.
But I have participated in contests from a few capable stations in the past. In most cases, those winning efforts included me as a member of a multi-op team.
Despite a “leisurely” effort this log was good enough for 1st place worldwide! Of course, GridLoc was a short lived contest created by George Fremin (WB5VZL, K5TR) and myself so mind share and participation was not terribly high. Worked this one with Ken Harker (WM5R). A better outcome than 1994 and 1995, but could have done better with more ops. Despite the higher score we still ended up only in 3rd place in STX. Prior to the start of the Collegiate Championships the University of Texas ARC was quite active for Sweepstakes, particularly Phone.
